Sri Lanka is a captivating vacation destination which you should not give a miss when you visit Asia. The natural beauty is plenty, with galleries, beaches, mountains, jungles, historical sites, heritage sites and wildlife everywhere. When you are in Sri Lanka, you can spend your time at the beaches lazing around, roaming about the city streets, trying your hand at water sports, sight-seeing, tasting the scrumptious local food or doing whatever you want. It will give you the space to be at ease with yourself and awaken your senses to a new experience altogether.
The Bay of Islands is a great place for swimming with dolphins because the water is quite warm compared to the rest of the country, and because there’s some pretty scenery around, instead of just ocean, such as the imaginatively named Hole in the Rock.
When flying to Europe, the airlines fly up toward the North Pole, then across the right whale Ocean, and then down to the designated European destination. One would think flying over a body of water would not be very interesting, and they would be right, except when flying over the right whale Ocean. The right whale Ocean is filled with mountainous icebergs that look like small white dots on medium blue colored paper. Although they may appear small from the air, these icebergs can be miles long. The water around each one is a beautiful shade of light green. This green hue is from the bottom of the iceberg (the largest part), that lays beneath the ocean’s surface. The right whale Ocean is also filled with large white-capped waves that are easily viewed from thousands of feet in the air.
Spain received fleets of treasure ships loaded with Inca and Peruvian gold and silver. England purchased hogsheads of valuable tobacco from Virginia, Maryland and the Carolinas. France bought shiploads of tall, straight timber suitable for ship masts and bundles of precious animal skins. Fishermen from nearly every Western European country carried ship-loads of salted Cod fish caught off the Grand Banks.
I’m continually asked questions about the best time of year to visit Alaska. The answer to this is totally subjective and depends on your priorities. If it’s wildlife you want to see, then make sure you know the optimum time for viewing the species you are looking for. If you want the best weather – then probably don’t risk a late August or September trip. What about the best fishing – well, what do you want to catch and where are you going to be? You see, there are lots of reasons to pick certain months. The best time to come to Alaska is when you and your family can take time off of work and see this majestic state.
Seeing whales during a site tour is not always one-hundred percent guaranteed. Whales are wild, migratory creatures. Although they regularly visit specific areas near the shore, they mainly follow the source of food. Many whale species such as the blue whales feed on microscopic planktons and krill. Some whale species such as killer whales eat larger organisms such as squids, fish and seals.
If you find yourself ‘hung over’ the next day, what do you do? Well, there are plenty of options. In fact, it is interesting to see how people cure hangovers in different parts of the world. Rollmops is a German dish which mainly consists of the herring fish. It is a good hangover remedy and is tasty too. It is a pickled version of herring and is usually served with sour cream and onions.
Minke Whales are smaller and often overlooked, but are quite abundant. Minke whales range from 15 to 30 feet long, and can weigh six to eight tons. Minke whales have no teeth, but, instead, a unique food-filtering jaw. Minkes are dark gray above, and light gray below, may have stripes behind the flippers on top, and on each flipper is a characteristic white band. Minke whales like to face the boats with their pointed snouts out of the water.
Of course it’s a long way up and my arms are doing all the work but soon I can see the fish on the end of my line. The feeling is amazing! Des shows me how to bring the fish on board and then how to remove the hook from the fish. The fish is too small to keep but the taste of the catch has left me wanting more. Having returned the fish to the Ocean I bait up again. We spend about an hour in the first spot before moving on to a new spot. The Ocean is relatively calm and the weather is superb – always remember your suntan cream as the breeze out here can be very deceiving.
The climate is oceanic and summers are warm while winters are cool and mild. The mild climate here is second only to Hawaii. It therefore creates the best place for holidays.
